After receiving his Master in Architecture from Kansas State University, Michael located to Dallas where he has spent seven years working in markets across the globe. Currently a Project Designer with Perkins+Will, Michael’s work focuses on connections, from physical to historical, as a means of informing performance driven and client centered design. In addition to his work in architecture, Michael is a self-taught writer, having contributed to such publications as Texas Architect, The Architects Newspaper, and D Magazine. Within the community, Michael currently serves on the Board of Directors for AIA Dallas, is a member of the Texas Architect Publications Committee, and has volunteered with the Dallas Festival of Ideas, Design Future Dallas, and Life in Deep Ellum. Michael, and his work, has been recognized both with the 2017 Associate Award from the American Institute of Architects and the 2016 Associate of the Year from AIA Dallas. Ezra Loh Co-Chair Corgan BIO Based in Dallas, TX, Ezra works with the commercial studio at Corgan. Recent project experience includes the Toyota North American Headquarters in Plano, TX with a particular focus on the technical design of the exterior skin and building envelope. He holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington and serves as a committee member to COLUMNS magazine, a publication of AIA Dallas. 8:30 – 9:35 1. The Urban Burb: Driving Plano’s Development through High-Performance Facade Design Take a deep-dive into the innovative facades of Toyota’s North American HQ and Liberty Mutual HQ and the challenges of designing high-performance envelopes on large scale projects. The principal designers will join with the City of Plano’s Director of Special Projects to focus on the impacts of design and development in attracting major corporate campuses to Plano. Presenters Chuck Armstrong Design Director Corgan BIO Armstrong serves as the Design Director and Principal at Corgan. With more than three decades of architectural experience, he has developed an impressive portfolio of healthcare, commercial, aviation, retail and institutional projects worldwide. As one of the firm’s most talented designers, Chuck has led design teams on a variety of complex projects and garnered more than 40 awards throughout his career. Chuck is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture, and has served on the advisory council for the school since 2014. Additionally, he served as a visiting critic for graduate studios at Texas A&M and Miami University of Ohio, as well as the Dean’s Advisory Council at the University of Texas at Arlington. Chuck is an advocate for public art and architecture and has been involved with the Dallas Architecture Forum, The Dallas Business Council for the Arts, The Community Arts Center of Dallas, The Texas Fine Arts Association and served on the committee for a Public Art Ordinance for Dallas. Additionally, Chuck has volunteered on behalf of the Dallas Zoo, The Dallas Arboretum, The Dallas Museum of Art, Texas Society of Architects and Dallas AIA. Chuck has designed many significant projects including Toyota North American Headquarters, Cityline Mixed-Use Development, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Headquarters, Exxon Mobil Headquarters, Love Field Airport, International Terminal D at DFW, Nashville International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, The Midfield Satellite Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport, Sacramento International Airport and the new Parkland Hospital. Peter J. Braster Director of Special Projects City of Plano BIO In late 2015, Peter Braster was named the City of Plano’s Director of Special Projects. Located in the Office of the City Manager, the Special Projects position was created to bridge economic development and real estate development in Plano. Currently, Mr. Braster oversees the ongoing redevelopment of Downtown Plano; is the ombudsman for the $3 billion Legacy West development; and will lead the City’s retail redevelopment program. Before joining the City of Plano, Mr. Braster was the City of Carrollton’s Senior Development Manager. Hired in 2006 as the city’s first Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Manager, Mr. Braster negotiated and managed Carrollton’s first public/ private partnership and promoted TOD and economic development in Carrollton’s three transit centers. Mr. Braster has over 30 years of public and private experience. He began his career in civil engineering by working on large transportation projects including several highway, airport, and light rail systems in New York and California. Peter is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the North Texas Urban Land Institute TOD Product Council, and the International Economic Development Council.
